Palletline said it was closing its Wrexham logistics operation barely two years after acquiring it, putting at risk more than 50 jobs.

The network added that the postcode coverage area was being shared among existing members and it was now working with staff to secure alternative work.

Its last set of accounts showed that it employed 56 staff, of which 46 were operatives and warehouse employees.

A Palletline spokeswoman said: “The Palletline Group has made the decision to close its Palletline Logistics Wrexham operation, reassigning its postcode coverage area to existing network members.

“The group’s strategy for its Palletline Logistics businesses is to return its operations to member control where appropriate.

“To that extent, we have collaborated with four existing members to realign delivery areas, ensuring full network coverage, whilst supporting their strategic growth plans and eliminating continuing ongoing losses at Palletline Wrexham.”

The spokeswoman added: “The Palletline team are working closely with network members in the region to secure alternative employment opportunities where possible for those affected by the closure.”

The news was described as a “devastating blow” on a Facebook group called Loris Y Gogs/Trucks Around North Wales.

“This is absolutely devastating for the lads and girls who have been part of the loyal, hardworking team at Palletline and I can’t even begin to imagine how hard this must be for you all,” it said.

“This just goes to show the pressure that haulage/transport companies are under to be sustainable and how fast things can change.”

Palletline had only recently rebranded the company name from Ningbo Wrexham in what it said was a strategic move to strengthen its position in the market.
