Global liquid logistics provider Stolt-Nielsen has acquired tanker operator Suttons International Holdings, one year after Suttons Tankers was bought by European logistics giant Schenk Tanktransport.

The purchase of Suttons International adds over 11,000 ISO tank containers to Stolt-Nielsen’s fleet, boosting its service and product offering and enhancing the company’s position in the sector.

The company, which delivers to more than 100 countries, said the purchase is aligned with its strategy to leverage Stolt Tank Containers’ (STC) global platform.

It added that  the combination of STC’s global network and fleet with Suttons’ specialist capabilities will result in greater efficiency, reliability, and flexibility and create a stronger platform to serve customers worldwide with safe, high-quality, and sustainable logistics solutions.

Announcing the completion of the acquisition, Hans Augusteijn, Stolt-Nielsen president, said: “Bringing Suttons into Stolt-Nielsen supports our strategy to scale our business, expand our fleet, strengthen our global market presence and provide broader coverage, benefitting customers across the globe.”

John Sutton, Suttons chief executive, added: “After many decades as a family business, this step secures the next chapter of growth for Suttons.

“Bringing together two organisations with complementary service offerings creates an enhanced global platform and increased market reach, while our shared legacy and values remain at the heart of the combined business.”

When Suttons Tankers was sold to Schenk Tanktransport in October 2024 the Sutton family retained ownership of Suttons International to maintain what it called “an undivided focus” on its continued growth and expansion.

Sutton Tankers now operates as Schenk UK.
