Knowles Logistics has placed its first order with trailer maker SDC and added 15 new curtainsiders to its fleet.
It increases the 3PL’s trailer fleet to 253 units, supporting a nationwide operation of around 130 tractor units.
Knowles said the investment followed continued growth helped by new contracts and reflected its policy of continually modernising its fleet.
MD Alex Knowles said the decision was driven by SDC’s collaborative approach and the quality of its product.
“This was our first order with SDC and the whole process has been incredibly positive,” he said.
“We worked closely together to develop the right specification for our operation, they were competitive commercially and the quality of the finished trailers has been excellent.
“The trailers underwent operational trials before the order was placed, with driver feedback proving overwhelmingly positive.”
Designed primarily for food and FMCG distribution, the EN XL-rated curtain-sided trailers feature specialist pallet restraint systems and practical enhancements aimed at improving safety and efficiency.
The specification includes internal LED lighting to improve visibility during loading and unloading in low-light conditions, additional rear-facing work lights to aid reversing and low rolling resistance tyres to help improve fuel efficiency and reduce operating costs.
“Small changes such as better lighting can have a significant impact on safety and make everyday operations easier, while maintaining the reliability and durability our customers expect,” he added.
