InPost UK has installed its first two lockers at Post Office branches in Ilkeston and Wolverhampton, as part of a six-month trial which will see them installed at several hundred sites.
This is a major deal for InPost which could open the door to the installation of thousands of lockers. The UK Post Office network is one of the most extensive retail networks in Europe, with 11,500 branches.Over 99.6% of the UK population are within three miles of a Post Office.
The trial aims to support branches, as well as the communities they serve, by generating additional footfall and new revenue opportunities at each participating branch.
Announcing the launch of the trial, InPost said that its partnership will help accelerate its footprint in the UK market, where 93.2 million parcels were delivered in the UK in 2024, double the volume from 2023.
Rafał Brzoska, InPost Group founder and chief executive, said: “Partnering with the Post Office, a historic institution at the heart of communities across the UK, marks a major step forward in our mission to make parcel delivery easier and more accessible for everyone.
“The installation of the first lockers at Stanley and Lanesfield Post Offices brings this partnership to life, combining InPost’s innovative locker technology with the Post Office’s national footprint.
“Together, we are creating even greater convenience for millions of people while supporting branches with increased footfall and new revenue opportunities as we continue to roll out the trial nationwide. We are excited to be working together to shape the future of parcel delivery in the UK.”
Neil Brocklehurst, Post Office chief executive added: “We are taking our first step in the locker market with InPost, who have brought forward innovative solutions to enable customers to pick up or send their parcels in a way that is convenient for them and fits in with their daily lives.
“We will evaluate this trial, and in particular the benefits it has brought to our postmasters and their branches and look forward to working with InPost over the next few months.”
