Grocery home delivery company Ocado has dismissed speculation that it is considering basing a third DC in Salford, Greater Manchester.
Although it said it was looking into developing a third DC in its financial results for 2013, a spokesman for Ocado said Salford is not being considered following reports in several regional newspapers last month that it was in talks over a site in Port Salford.
Although the port is still under construction, it would be an ideal location for a business that is hoping to grow.
Peel Group, which will operate the port, says it will be the UK’s first ‘tri-modal’ port, meaning it will be served by road, rail and sea.
With Ocado's financial results last month revealing intentions to invest £100m in hubs, depots, and vehicles this year alone, The Hub would be surprised if Ocado didn't announce additional network capacity soon.
It has already laid out plans to open more regional sites with Morrisons next year, but these are yet to be disclosed.
