Norbert Dentressangle has won a £3m two-year contract with Nestlé Waters UK to provide an intermodal operation for importing bottled water from mainland Europe.
The logistics giant will make around 900 scheduled collections and deliveries a year, moving full trailer and container loads at fixed times.
This will involve collecting Vittel from the eponymous town, and Perrier from Vergeze, in France. San Pellegrino will be collected from two sites in Italy – Madone and Ruspino – before onward transportation to the UK.
ND says its integrated intermodal and road transport service offers a higher payload throughout each journey, therefore significantly reducing the amount of road miles travelled.
Frazer Crawley, distribution manager for Nestlé Waters UK, says: “As well as being a cost-effective delivery service from our European bottling points to the UK, [the intermodal operation] also meets Nestlé Waters’ environmental objectives to minimise road miles as much as possible and reduce our supply chain carbon footprint.”
In addition to the new import operation, Norbert Dentressangle already provides a warehousing and logistics services for Nestlé Waters UK at three sites in Buxton, which deliver its brands to major retailers across the UK.
