The Scottish Government has not made a decision yet as to whether to introduce a "zero tolerance" drink drive limit for LGV drivers.
It came as Holyrood reiterated its desire to reduce the general drink-drive limit from the current UK standard of 80mg per 100ml of blood to 50mg, after the granting of new powers by Westminster.
A spokesman for the Scottish Government told MT it intends to launch a consultation later this year, with any changes to legislation likely to occur in 2013.
The spokesman adds it is too early to say whether Scotland will follow Ireland in introducing a “zero tolerance” drink-drive limit specifically for LGV drivers.
Ireland has had a 20mg limit in place for professional drivers since last autumn. Northern Ireland is set to follow suit.
There are no plans to change the 80mg per 100ml limit in England or Wales.
