Müller Wiseman Dairies has confirmed that it will close its Pensilva, Cornwall depot and transfer operations to its Bridgwater site.
The decision was prompted by a change in customer requirements, mainly a movement away from individual store deliveries and delivering into RDCs instead.
MD Carl Ravenhall said: “The whole team, together with union representatives worked extremely hard to find ways of addressing the challenges facing this depot, but unfortunately we have been unable to establish an economic basis for continuing to distribute milk from Pensilva.”
The company will gradually transfer distribution from Pensilva to Bridgwater over the summer. It said deliveries to customers in Cornwall and Devon will be unaffected by the changes.
Some 58 jobs have been affected, of which 29 are HGV drivers.
“Great credit is due to the team at Pensilva who have handled the situation the depot finds itself in professionally and remained focused on delivering an excellent service to our customers,” added Ravenhall.
