Shown here are two of five new 6x2 Actros 2545 tractive units with BigSpace cabs supplied recently by Mercedes-Benz dealer City West Commercials to ADMP Group company, DJB Haulage.
The trucks, delivered during March, join a 40-strong fleet and will work out of DJB Haulage’s new two-acre depot on Southampton’s Marchwood Industrial Estate pulling 20ft and 40ft skeletal trailers at 44 tonnes GVW for shipping lines and freight forwarders.
Andy Tuck, group transport manager for ADMP Group, which incorporates Willmotts Transport and has commissioned 28 other Actros trucks in the last two years, said the vehicles – which all have the six-cylinder 449hp engine and PowerShift 3 automated transmission – had been chosen for their fuel consumption performance.
“With regular returns of 9-10mpg, the Actros is, on the whole, the most fuel-efficient vehicle on our fleet,” he said. The Predictive Powertrain Control system on the latest Euro-6 versions, he added, might produce even better fuel returns.
