Meachers showed it had the bandwidth to handle a clutch of projects to help upcycle cable reels and rope and divert the waste materials from landfill.

Working in partnership with broadband provider Toob and subsea cable installer Marine Global, the haulier repurposed the industrial materials to benefit communities and wildlife across the South.

Braishfield primary school received six wooden reels and 10 pallets, which will be transformed into garden tables; The Apple Tree Centre was provided with one reel and a pallet to be turned into a reading table for children and Oasis Southampton City Farm received eight reels, which will be upcycled into climbing frames for their goats.

Separately, Meachers facilitated the return of 13 pallets of used marine rope from Gibraltar aboard cable laying vessel CS Recorder, which will now be used for the enjoyment of primates at Monkey World.

Speaking on behalf of Meachers Global Logistics, Nikki Milton, charity ambassador, said: “These projects reflect our commitment to sustainability, innovation and community spirit.

“It’s been a pleasure to lead these initiatives and see how simple acts of reuse can make a meaningful difference.”

Paul Deslandes, Telecoms MD at Global Marine, added: “We’re proud to transform materials previously destined for landfill, giving them new purpose and reducing waste across our global fleet.

“A big thank you to Meachers for partnering with us on this initiative, one which we hope is just the first of many.”
