Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) has received a £46.6m funding boost for its Superport ambitions.
The funding is part of a package awarded to Liverpool from the government's Regional Growth Fund and will be used for transport schemes that directly support its plans to become a northern logistics hub.
Liverpool LEP chair Robert Hough said: "We have always stressed the economic potential of the City Region acting as a freight and logistics hub for Superport and are therefore encouraged that this package recognises the importance of the infrastructure of schemes to support this development."
Peel Ports is also developing a £10bn deep sea container port in the city, called Liverpool2. It hopes this will double Liverpool's annual container handling capacity and is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
