The RHA has published its Scottish Manifesto, Driving Scotland, setting out priorities for the next Scottish Government to support the road transport sector.

The manifesto was launched at the RHA Parliamentary Exhibition at Holyrood today (17 March) where MSPs and stakeholders were attending.

It argues that road freight plays a vital role in Scotland’s economy, supporting industries, including agriculture, forestry, aquaculture, whisky production, construction and renewable energy.

The manifesto also calls for action on workforce skills, road infrastructure, secure driver facilities, and the transition to decarbonised commercial vehicles.

The RHA is using the exhibition to showcase a number of key policy priorities from the manifesto, including accelerating investment in Scotland’s trunk road network, supporting the adoption of lower-carbon fuels such as HVO, and improving secure parking provision to tackle freight crime and support driver welfare.

The publication comes ahead of the Scottish Parliament elections on 7 May.

Richard Smith, RHA managing director said: “Road transport is essential to Scotland’s economy and to communities across the country.

“Our manifesto sets out practical priorities that will help operators invest with confidence, support jobs and keep Scotland’s supply chains moving.”
