Drivers can now search for and book access to more than 750 secure parking locations across Europe after a partnership between global tech firm Trimble and TRAVIS Road Services.
The integration of Trimble’s CoPilot in-cab navigation platform with TRAVIS’ European truck services network promises to remove a long-standing source of friction for drivers and fleet managers, at a time when carriers face growing pressure around driver safety, security and compliance.
A recent study by the European Commission found drivers are spending an average of 45 minutes a day searching out safe and legal places to rest before their driving hours run out.
Trimble said this was leading to unnecessary anxiety and fatigue, and for women drivers in particular, personal safety issues.
And beyond the human cost, parking-related inefficiencies add up to more than £16,000 per truck annually through lost time, unnecessary mileage and wasted fuel.
CoPilot users search for TRAVIS parking locations along their planned route, near their current location or by searching for a specific site.
Once a location is identified, a link within CoPilot takes the driver to the TRAVIS platform to complete their booking.
Drivers can also receive parking and entry instructions in more than 10 languages via the TRAVIS Driver App.
Fleet managers receive a single invoice from TRAVIS covering the parking costs and making VAT recovery simpler, as well as eliminating the need to manage receipts from multiple countries and suppliers.
“Access to safe, reliable parking shouldn’t be an afterthought, it needs to be built right into the tools that fleets use to manage their operations,” said Chris Quin, VP, Europe sales at Trimble.
“By bringing TRAVIS’s parking network directly into CoPilot, we’re helping carriers seamlessly build safer rest stops into the driving day, giving drivers greater confidence at the end of a shift.”
TRAVIS Road Services sales and business development manager Max Zillinger added: “Drivers shouldn’t have to compromise on their personal safety or cargo security just to stay compliant with driving hours.
“By embedding our network of over 750 registered locations directly into Trimble CoPilot, we are taking the guesswork out of the driving day.”
