Truck and van manufacturer IVECO has launched a new connected security service designed to help operators recover stolen vehicles more quickly and reduce disruption to fleet operations.

The service, called Stolen Vehicle Assistance, is integrated into the manufacturer’s IVECO ON connected services platform and uses artificial intelligence and geofencing technology to detect potential theft and trigger recovery procedures.

The launch comes amid rising concern about commercial vehicle theft across Europe, particularly in the light van sector.

IVECO said light commercial vehicles face a significantly higher theft risk than passenger cars, with organised criminal groups increasingly targeting vans through fraud or theft before moving them rapidly into secondary markets or dismantling them for parts.

Developed in partnership with telematics specialist Targa Telematics, the system combines vehicle connectivity with a 24/7 security monitoring centre that works with law enforcement authorities to track and recover stolen vehicles.

IVECO said the service builds on the standard factory-fitted connectivity available across its vehicle range and aims to turn basic tracking data into a coordinated vehicle recovery process.

Alberto Buttiglieri, Iveco product manager for safety and security services, said the system was designed to help operators react quickly when theft occurs.

“With Stolen Vehicle Assistance, we help customers react quickly when a theft occurs and recover their vehicle as fast as possible,” he said. “By combining factory-fitted connectivity, AI-driven detection and a 24/7 Security Center, we turn alerts into coordinated recovery actions that keep vehicles available and businesses running.”

For operators relying on vehicles such as the IVECO Daily, theft can cause major disruption to operations, particularly for small fleets or businesses dependent on a limited number of vehicles.

The system allows operators to set virtual geographic boundaries around vehicles and uses AI to detect unusual movements that could indicate theft.

Once a potential incident is confirmed, the security centre monitors the vehicle in real time and works with authorities to coordinate recovery. According to the company, the approach can deliver recovery rates of up to 90%.

The service is accessible through the IVECO ON portal and the Easy Daily mobile app, allowing fleet managers to monitor vehicle status while receiving support in the event of theft.

Alberto Falcione, vice-president of sales at Targa Telematics, said combining vehicle data with operational expertise was key to improving fleet security.

“By leveraging advanced data intelligence together with years of operational expertise in vehicle security, we help fleets respond quickly and effectively to critical events,” he said.

The move reflects a broader trend in the commercial vehicle sector towards integrating telematics, AI and security services into connected fleet management platforms as operators look to protect assets and maintain service continuity.
