The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is urging customers of commercial insurance broker Anthony Jones (UK) Ltd to contact their insurers directly to check their policies remain valid after the company agreed to stop carrying out regulated activities.

The warning comes just two days after it emerged that a winding up petition against the broker has been lodged with the High Court.

Anthony Jones (UK) Ltd (AJL), which was founded in 1984, is a broker specialising in the road transport sector.

The company, which has offices in Dartford, Bristol and Bromley, arranges insurance for hauliers, coach operators and commercial vehicle fleets. It acts as an insurance intermediary rather than an insurer.

In an announcement issued on 17 July, the FCA said Anthony Jones (UK) has been prohibited from carrying out regulated activities since 9 July 2026.

The FCA added: “This means that AJL cannot provide any services on behalf of an insurer, including selling new insurance policies, offering renewals, or providing any advice to new or existing consumers.”

The FCA said the restrictions will remain in place while it continues to engage with the firm. It has not disclosed why the restrictions were imposed.

The authority also stressed that customers should contact the insurer named on their policy documentation to confirm their cover remains in force and that premium payments have been received.

Separately, a winding-up petition has been presented against Anthony Jones (UK) in the High Court.

The petition was lodged by Premium Credit Limited on 30 June and published in the Gazette on 15 July. It is due to be heard on 12 August. There is no indication at this stage that the petition is connected to the FCA’s action.

The FCA declined to provide further information on the regulatory action or on whether existing customers face any disruption to their insurance arrangements.

.Attempts to contact Anthony Jones (UK) have yet to succeed.
