Software specialist r2c has launched a new online tool which logs commercial vehicle technicians’ hours against individual jobs, allowing workshops to assess the efficiency of employees, pinpoint where additional training may be needed and prevent jobs being under-estimated.

Time Recording analyses how every minute is spent against work lines, letting CV technicians log hours against each task and allowing workshops to chart the efficiency of employees.

The company predicts the tool will “revolutionise” workshop operations, by providing 360 degree visibility of each and every job undertaken.

With each job logged, workshop managers are provided with insight into job over-runs, bottlenecks in the chain or delays before they become too costly.

It will also allow job costing to be far more accurate, as the system uses real-time data to allow for smarter pricing and reduced margin loss from under-quoted work, as well as reducing manual input.

Another key aspect is that of employee development, with Time Reporting offering bespoke data to support technician training, planning and performance reviews, as well as allowing managers to identify high performers, support under-performing staff and ensure a fair workload distribution.

Ash Connell, r2c commercial director, said: “Time Recording launches at an important time for workshops, which are under increasing cost and taxation pressures.

“By providing transparency and real-world data, they can make better decisions when it comes to running their workshops in the most efficient way possible.

“Our extensive experience shows that workshops are consistently under-estimating the true labour costs of their operations, so we’ve developed Time Recording to highlight the time and cost saving benefits that are available through using a digital workshopmanagement system.

“It will also prove to be a valuable tool in monitoring employees, helping to identify stand-out staff and those who need more support.”
