Customs Support Group (CSG) has recruited Jo Cloherty as its new senior commercial manager for the UK and Ireland.
Cloherty brings two decades of logistics sector experience to her new role, having worked in business development roles across a wide spectrum of supply chain businesses, including air, sea, road, contract logistics and customs trade for multinationals, FMCG brands and broadcasting agencies.
Her brief at CSG is to spearhead the company’s UK&I growth plans and support new and existing clients with its digitalisation agenda.
Cloherty will help UK and Ireland-based customers deal with the complexities of customs clearance and will also be looking closely at how technology can streamline the process.
Her appointment aligns with recent growth for CSG, which - with the addition of Harold and Haroldson in Norway - has recently set up an official hub in what is its 14th European country.
Cloherty said: “My role will be wide-ranging, from seeking new opportunities for CSG to supporting businesses which are digitalising the customs and trade element of the supply chain.
“Our work is all about working to simplify the complexities of global trade, helping businesses manage those challenges compliantly and ensuring they have resilience in their supply chain.
“Customs is a word-heavy and complex world. People working in supply chain and logistics are quick witted – they face issues every day, which they quickly find a solution to and move on.
“That’s where we support, simplifying terms and giving solutions to avoid delays.”
She added that digitalisation is a key buzzword in the industry, as AI is on most supply chain firms’ plans for 2025.
“We combine machine learning with human expertise to optimise productivity and we plan to leverage this as the leading customs tech partner across Europe,” she explained.
“This vital role of customs knowledge and expertise – what we call Real Intelligence – is key to enhancing AI and navigating the complex and ever-evolving regulatory landscape.
“Our decades of industry expertise helps us ensure we extract the full potential of the technology available to us,” she added.
Cloherty will be sharing her expertise on a live Supply Chain Talk podcast on 5 February, looking at customs compliance risk reduction and how AI-driven tools can enhance duty management, streamline customs processes and ensure shared accountability.
