St Albans and Iver-based plant and vehicle rental firm Gradewell Plant & Haulage has entered administration after HM Revenue & Customs served a winding-up petition on it.
Administrator BTG Begbies Traynor had not responded as Motor Transport went to press, but documents filed in court showed that HMRC attempted to wind up the business on 13 March.
The family-run company supplied operated and self-drive construction equipment to civil, rail and demolition clients across the UK, Ireland and the Netherlands.
It was incorporated more than 20 years ago and in its last set of accounts the firm said it employed 24 staff in 2024.
It ran a diverse range of civil, rail and demolition spec plant up to 70 tonnes, along with attachments tailored to customer needs.
Gradewell held an international licence authorising 20 HGVs and 12 trailers running out of two bases in the East of England traffic area.
This licence was revoked in April according to office of the traffic commissioner records.
BTG was appointed as administrator last Friday (5 June).
