Upmarket retailer Harrods has opened its new 346,000ft² DC in Thatcham, Berkshire.
Opened on 16 October, the site is its sole UK DC and replaces a facility at Osterley, west London.
Purchased in May 2011, the DC will serve the retailer’s store in Knightsbridge, west London, as well as airport boutiques and e-commerce operations.
It will be run with a two-shift system for transport, which the firm said would result in fewer vehicle movements in the surrounding area than a standard three-shift pattern across 24 hours.
Half of the Thatcham site’s 180-strong workforce have moved across from its Osterley DC, with the remainder recruited locally.
