Merseyside operator SSO Logistics has set up a GoFundMe page for the family of one of its drivers who died in a collision on the M6 last week.

Cliff Tamou had been driving a lorry on the motorway in Staffordshire when it broke down on Thursday 27 February.

The 58-year-old from Wigan was outside of the vehicle when he was hit by a Toyota Avensis between junctions 16 and 15 southbound.

Tamou suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash.

The car driver, a 22-year-old man from Dudley, was taken to hospital with leg and facial injuries.

Staffordshire police said they were not thought to be life changing or life threatening. He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

In a statement released through the force, Tamou’s family said: “Cliff Tamou, 58, who moved to the UK over 30 years ago from New Zealand and settled in the Wigan area, was a devoted husband, father to six children and five grandchildren.

“He was a lorry driver for many years and loved playing, refereeing and coaching rugby.

“The family have asked for their privacy to be respected in this very sad time.”
