Motor Transport’s Fleet Data analysis reveals Evri, Tesco and Turners are the fastest-growing operators among the UK’s top ten truck fleets, with Evri’s 38.2% expansion driven by last year’s DHL eCommerce acquisition. The top ten now control 19.5% of UK trucks as industry consolidation accelerates.

Evri, Tesco and Turners (Soham) are currently the fastest expanding of the top ten truck fleets, Motor Transport’s Fleet Data listing reveals.
Analysis of the changes over the past six months show that Evri increased its truck fleet by 38.2%, largely driven by its acquisition of DHL eCommerce last year, while Britain’s biggest retailer, Tesco, increased its truck fleet by 1.6%.
In a similar analysis six months ago, the three fastest growing fleets were Turners, XPO and Maritime Transport. Turners is one of three operators that have shown consistent growth over the past year: the others being Evri and Tesco, which remains the only own-account operator in the top ten.
The transfer of DHL eCommerce to Evri means that DHL’s truck fleet has fallen by 7.6% while its trailer fleet has declined by 10%. Royal Mail has reduced the size of its truck fleet by 8.1% making it the biggest faller in the top ten.
GXO has also seen a decline, largely down to the integration of GXO Logistics UK II (the Clipper Logistics business that it acquired in 2023) since we last looked at the sector six months ago.
The top ten operators now account for 19.5% of the 299,943 trucks, and 31.5% of the 245,180 trailers covered by MT Fleet Data. This is slightly down on six months ago when the figures were 19.9% of the trucks and 32% of the trailers.
Nevertheless, on a year on year basis, the top ten’s share of the vehicle parc is increasing. In February 2025, the top ten operators accounted for 19.2% of the trucks and 30.3% of trailers.
The industry is still going through significant consolidation which is likely to see the industry giants accounting for an increasing proportion of the trucks on the road. For example, last week, Motor Transport revealed that William Stobart’s company, WS Holdco, has bought EV Cargo Solutions and Distribution - essentially the former CM Downton business. And in January, CMA CGM completed its acquisition of Freightliner Ltd, the intermodal operator.
Fleet Data is Motor Transport’s listing of the UK’s largest third party and own account HGV fleet operators. Based on the regular O-licence updates issued by the Office of the Traffic Commissioners, Fleet Data enables subscribers to quickly identify operators in each of the eight traffic areas based on the number of vehicles on the licence and type of operator.
