Fast charging firm Kempower joined forces with WattHub to supply the Netherlands’ second largest public truck DC fast charging site with its infrastructure.

The 5,000m² charging plaza at the Rotterdam World Gateway terminal at the Port of Rotterdam, is now open and the first phase of development saw 3.5MW of total available power installed.

It said that 30 Kempower Satellites were currently live, with each delivering up to 400kW per plug to the connected vehicles.

A second phase of installations will begin this year, when a further 1,500m² of plaza and 2,100kW of additional charging power will be added – enough for another 10 vehicles.

The site has also been built to be Kempower megawatt charging system (MCS) ready, with the necessary cables and software already installed.

This means that WattHub can easily add Kempower mega satellites, capable of delivering up to 1.2MW of power per plug, to the site at a later date with no further installation work required.

MCS technology enables the full charging of a standard e-truck in about 45 minutes.

Gerben van den Berg, CEO of WattHub, said: “A heavily industrial charging location like the Port of Rotterdam requires chargers that are robust, reliable and powerful enough to charge large vehicles in a short time.

“Our previous collaborations with Kempower have consistently proven that they can deliver this, so we have been delighted to partner once again.”
