Fagan & Whalley has launched its first 100% HVO fuelled depot, in a “seamless” move that has reduced its fleet’s CO2 emissions by almost a fifth.
Its Coventry base now exclusively stocks the renewable diesel fuel and every vehicle filled up at the depot uses HVO, although they can also refuel with traditional diesel at other locations.
Fagan & Whalley said a third of its fuelling stations are now using HVO and it was leading the way in cutting its carbon footprint and supporting its clients’ net zero ambitions.
By adopting the drop-in replacement for fossil diesel it has reduced its overall group fleet CO2 emissions by 19%.
MD Dan Fagan said: “We understand that achieving net zero isn’t something any business can do alone.
“Reaching these ambitious targets requires collective effort across the entire supply chain.
“It’s about everyone – suppliers, partners, and clients – coming together to make meaningful progress.
“By transitioning our Coventry depot to HVO fuel, not only are we achieving our own objectives, but we are also actively helping our clients achieve theirs. It’s been very well received by many of our customers, and it’s rewarding to know we’re contributing to their success.
Fagan added: “Those within the logistics industry will understand the unique set of challenges we face when it comes to sustainability.
“It’s a sector that’s heavily reliant on fuel, and balancing operational efficiency with reducing environmental impact is no easy task.
“Nevertheless, the transition to HVO has been seamless. Our trucks can run on a blend of diesel and HVO, or solely 100% HVO, without any impact on performance or efficiency.
“From a fiscal and environmental perspective, the decision just made sense.”
The company said it was also installing new fuel tanks, preparing for electric vehicle chargers, launching its first EV truck, integrating a rainwater wash system, and exploring solar panel installation.
