Evri said it was bucking the trend in a sluggish employment market and recruiting for 2,500 roles amid a surge in parcel volumes.

The delivery firm has seen volumes rise by 12% to 425m this year and its growth continues apace following the merger with DHL eCommerce and the acquisitions of Coll-8 and UK Mail.

Martijn de Lange, Evri Group chief executive, said: “We continue to deliver phenomenal growth at Evri and none more so than within our hard-working courier network, who are truly the backbone of our business.

“At a time when many companies are reducing headcount and unemployment is growing, we’re proud to be creating thousands of opportunities and leading the way with initiatives like Evri Plus.”

The thousands of roles it wants to fill cover couriers, depot and hub roles, head office corporate functions, including in finance and IT, and Evri Premium positions.

Evri added that its recruitment drive followed a relaunch of its union-backed Evri Plus initiative, which gives self-employed couriers access to 28 days paid holiday, pension contributions, parental leave and a guaranteed minimum wage.

It said couriers typically earn an average of £20.86 an hour and additional benefits include free access to wellbeing services such as Digital GP and Physio, retail discounts, and participation in Evri’s Go Electric scheme, which offers up to £3,300 towards an electric vehicle over two years.
