Elddis has put another ten Euro-5 new Actros trucks into operation.
The units will be used on trunking activities within the fleet, which comprises standard and longer semi-trailers, as well as shorter length ‘urban artics’.
Last year the Consett-based operator found a Mercedes-Benz Euro-6 powered 420hp artic to be more fuel efficient than its current Euro-5 Actros trucks, after running them side by side within the fleet during May and June.
The Euro-6 unit operated alongside Elddis’s 440hp Euro-5 ‘old shape’ Actros trucks, running the same loads in the same conditions, covering some 800 miles a day.
However, Elddis ultimately decided to go with Euro-5 equipped new shape Actros trucks. It expects the improved aerodynamics of Mercedes’ latest design to yield even greater fuel efficiencies than the Euro-6 units it tested.
This is the second tranche of ten new Actros units to hit the road in Elddis colours since this time.
