Operators will be able to demonstrate that they are meeting Earned Recognition standards to specific customers after the DVSA said it was designing a “bolt-on module”.
Currently the Earned Recognition scheme enables companies to share their performance data with the DVSA, proving they meet the enforcement agency’s standards.
In return, they’re less likely to be stopped for roadside inspections.
But now the agency is developing a new module that covers additional requirements and will demonstrate to certain clients, such as HS2 or TfL, that the operator is meeting their enhanced standards.
Dave Wood, DVSA enforcement policy manager, said: “DVSA’s priority is to protect everyone from unsafe drivers and vehicles.

“We are currently working on a bolt-on module for Earned Recognition which will be necessary when bidding for contracts with specific organisations or projects.
“It will involve enhanced levels training and compliance tailored specifically to ensure operators meet the standards needed for the contracts.”
It is not yet know when the module will become available, which contracts will require it and whether there will be a cost attached to it.
Recently, the DVSA said it was considering allowing operators within its Earned Recognition scheme to conduct their own annual tests.
