The DVSA has confirmed it is to publish three new forms of guidance on load security. This will comprise a guide for vehicle operators, a leaflet aimed at drivers, and a series of instructional videos.

The agency said it is finalising the content of the operator’s guide and hopes to publish by the New Year.

Development of the new guidance was first announced in April this year.

Anyone with suggestions on the content is invited to email movingon@dvsa.gov.uk.

In a new position announced last month, the DVSA said it now accepted that loads carried inside curtainsiders complying with European standard EN 12642-XL did not need internal load restraint, as the body and curtains would be strong enough to contain loads satisfactorily.

Earlier this year, meanwhile, the agency agreed to approve a new design of load restraint for the upper deck of double-deck trailers, developed by a working group led by the Road Haulage Association.
