DHL has been picked to be the official Team GB logistics partner for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
Following a kitting out event in Stockport yesterday (21 January) where British athletes received their sporting gear for the first time, DHL will now transport more than eight tonnes of equipment across 5,500 miles from the UK to the Olympic Village in Russia.
Bill Sweeney, chief executive officer of the British Olympic Association, said: “Ensuring that over eight tonnes of the team's inventory is delivered to Sochi on time is a crucial element of our operation and I am confident that with DHL's support our athletes will have everything they need to perform at their very best.”
Phil Couchman, CEO of DHL Express in the UK & Ireland added that his company has a strong history of handling distribution for international sporting events. "This is a complex, large-scale operation and we'll do whatever it takes to ensure the athletes have everything they need for a successful Games."
In March last year, DHL extended its contract as official logistics partner for Formula 1 racing.
