City Link has ordered 86 Cartwright-built double-deck trailers as part of its fleet replacement cycle.
The operator has so far received 20 of the bespoke trailers, which are being supplied on a seven-year contract hire deal with Fraikin.
The trailers were delivered in December, with the remainder expected to arrive by the end of this month.
The order represents 40% of City Link's target to replace half of its trailer fleet in the next six months. Single-deck trailers are to be refreshed once all of the double-deck trailers have arrived.
The trailers are slightly lower (in height) than the usual 4880mm double-deck trailer at 4635mm, due operational requirements.
Each of the trailers come with an improved load restraint system to reduce damages, including wrap-around curtains, which City Link says will improve the efficiency of loading and unloading.
Operations director Adele Henderson said the trailers will help the parcel carrier improve fuel efficiency and speed up deliveries.
“This significant investment in our trailer fleet reaffirms our intent to modernise and grow our business since City Link’s acquisition in April,” Henderson said.
The Fraikin deal also covers repair and maintenance of the trailers.
Fraikin's customer manager, Mark Dudley, said: “We are delighted to have won this new contract with City Link which is testament to the good working relationship we have built up over many years."
