Erith Haulage saw £2.8m wiped off its turnover last year as it battled a fall in demand for its services.
The FORS Gold accredited haulier also saw pre-tax profits slide to just £73,000, compared with £408,000 in 2024.
Revenue at the haulage contractor was £16.5m for the year ending 30 September 2025, a 14.7% decrease on the previous year.
The company attributed the fall to “the decrease in demand for both the type and scale of works carried out for Erith Contractors and external parties”.
“Gross profit margins increased during the year, from 11.3% to 17.5% reflecting cost efficiency practices taking effect,” it added.
Erith Haulage said the market remained highly competitive, with smaller firms fostering local reputations and larger PLCs competing on price.
“The company seeks to maintain its history of strong growth by competing aggressively on price while providing added value to its customers,” the haulier said in a strategic report.
“It is anticipated that as the reputation of the business continues to grow this will foster further opportunities for the business in the future.
“The directors are of the opinion that the market for the forthcoming year will remain challenging. However, instigated cost reductions, improved working methods along with our structured pricing policy will ensure continuing profitability.”
The company operates 65 HGVs out of two bases in Dartford and Erith and is part of the Erith Holdings group that specialises in civil engineering activities.
