Cambridgeshire temperature-controlled operator Buffaload Logistics has opened a new cross-docking facility at its Huntingdon base, which it claims will increase capacity at the site by up to 50%.
The six-bay cross-docking facility can accommodate its 65 double-deck refrigerated trailers and will help the firm cope with peak demand. It is currently in the process of adding 30 more of the trailers to its fleet, all of which will be delivered by the end of the year.
The new facility, which formerly had three cross-docks, will take in trunked palletised loads from suppliers, which are then cross-docked via customer-designated lanes. It then consolidates loads for onward delivery into retailers’ DCs.
Buffaload sales director Graham Usher said: “This impressive new chilled pallet handling facility complements our existing cross-docking operations and gives us the capacity to cope with any level of demand.”
It also plans to open a 80,000ft² temperature-controlled warehouse and a six-bay workshop at the Huntingdon site by 2016.
