Wincanton has turned to Volvo for the delivery of two new tankers that will cover 180,000km each year, collecting milk from farms across South Wales. Both FM 8×2 tankers replace older models from a rival marque and have been built on a 5,100mm wheelbase with a rear steering tag axle and a D11K Euro VI Step D engine. Malcolm Group has taken delivery of its first Euro-6 Volvo FM, and placed an order for 30 more, basing its decision on the performance of its existing Euro-5 FM units.
Wincanton has won a £60m, three-year milk distribution renewal with Dairy Crest, which will extend the firms’ partnership to 21 years of working together. The deal will see the logistics giant collecting milk from more than 600 farms across southern England and Wales and transporting it, via a 100-strong fleet, to four Dairy Crest dairies. The GMB union has held a protest outside a Marks and Spencer retail store over the rates of pay awarded to agency staff at the retailer’s Swindon DC, which was operated until January by Wincanton and is now run by DHL Supply Chain.
