Hireco will open a 5-acre truck park at DP London Gateway later this year to address what it described as “a chronic shortage of parking in the surrounding area”.
The site (pictured mid-build), expected to open in the first week of August, will have space for 160 HGVs and will feature a cafe, showers and toilet facilities. CCTV and ANPR, as well as concrete and fencing, will provide on-site security.
Hireco said the site will be open all day, every day throughout the year, and that it complements its trailer R&M site nearby.
Gary White, operations director at Hireco, told MT: “The nearest parking facility to the port is about six miles up the road, and there’s limited space there.
“It is a problem for the locals because there’s a lot of roadside parking going on. But there is no alternative for drivers – so we will be the alternative.
“We want first-class facilities, and a nice cafe to offer healthy food as well as the usual truck driver fare. We want to bring something into the industry.”
