A trio of Mercedes-Benz SLT tractor units helped heavy haulier Plant Speed transport what is believed to be the longest wind speed turbine blades ever moved by road in the UK.
The Bristol-based operator relied on an 8x4 Actros 4463 and two Arocs eight-wheeler 4163 variants for the commission from a European shipping and logistics customer.
Unloaded from Avonmouth Dock and moved 24 miles to Magor, the blades and their spacer frames measured 68.252m in length and each weighed around 24 tonnes.
They were secured for transport on Plant Speed’s purpose-designed Nooteboom extendable Super Wing Carrier trailers.
