West-Yorkshire haulier Bedfords has taken delivery of 39 Euro-6 Iveco Stralis Hi-Way units, which are set to be joined by seven 18-tonne, and one 7.5 tonne, Eurocargo trucks.
The 47 unit deal, which was brokered at the CV Show earlier this year, follows in the footsteps of Bedfords taking nine Euro-6 Volvo FH-500s. The Ivecos were leased through Iveco Capital and delivered by dealer Northern Commercials.
The Stralis’ will form part of Bedfords’ general fleet and will conduct time sensitive deliveries for customers including the Daily Mail and Polestar Group, as well as other general contract work. Each unit is expected to remain in service for three years, and are anticipated to clock-up between 120,000kms and 140,000kms a year.
The Euro-6 Iveco Cursor 11 engine used in the Stralis can produce 460hp and 2,150 Nm of torque.
Lee Nichols, business improvements director at Bedfords, said that the 6x2 Euro-6 Stralis Hi-Way proved to have significantly lower operating costs when it conducted a trial of tractor units from different manufacturers.
“The trials clearly showed that the Hi-Way, with the lowest fuel consumption in its class and impressive reliability, will ensure we achieve the value we are looking for from our investment,” he said. “We value the relationship with have with Northern Commercials and Iveco but a company must always be subjective when looking at its options. Considerations on mpg and performance must come first.”
Some 60% of Bedfords’s fleet of approximately 100 units are Iveco’s, with the new units replacing older Iveco and Volvo units.
