Eleven strong haulier consortium Jigsaw has won a contract with food manufacturer Kellogg’s to handle less-than-truck-load volumes.
The deal will see it consolidate smaller consignments and partial loads into full loads at Kellogg’s distribution centres in Manchester for delivery to retail warehouses across the UK.
“This is another example of how we can support big brands like Kellogg’s by reducing supply chain complexity and adding value through our expertise,” said Andy Humpherson, MD of Jigsaw.
“Our unique network approach means we have agility across the full drop size range with national coverage to meet the needs of the most demanding customers.”
The win is a three -year contract worth in the region of £5m.
Norbert Dentressangle confirmed that this activity was previously handled by the firm but a spokeswoman said: “[It] was a small and non-core part of their agreement with Kellogg's which is focused on warehousing”.
Last year five member consortium Harlequin Logistics signed a deal with Kellogg’s to handle some 15,000 full loads annually. MD Paul Smith said of the Jigsaw deal: “This doesn’t impact on the full load business we operate, which constitutes the bulk of the Kellogg’s volume.”
He added that Harlequin would also be handling some of Kellogg's less-than-truck-load volumes in the south-west of England.
A spokesman for Jigsaw told MT: "The changing face of Kellogg’s product portfolio requires a revision to it's network solution and Jigsaw have been chosen due to expertise in managing complex networks. The current solution for the south-west is capable of adapting in line with Kellogg’s requirements."
