Howard Tenens has opened its fourth compressed natural gas (CNG) refuelling facility at its Swindon depot.
The site will be used to fuel gas-powered vehicles in its own and other operators’ fleets. It can potentially refuel 125 vehicles a day and contains twin compressors, three dispensers for HGVs and a dispenser for cars and vans.
Howard Tenens, which operates 22 of its total 59 dual-fuel trucks out of the Swindon depot, also operates CNG refuelling sites at its Andover, Boston and South Ockenden, London depots.
The site was opened last week by, the now former, transport minister Stephen Hammond (pictured below R-L with Justin Tomlinson, North Swindon MP, and Dan Morris, executive director at Howard Tenens).
It forms part of a project funded by the Technology Strategy Board, a non-departmental agency set up by government and sponsored by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.
Jamie Hartles, commercial and marketing director at Howard Tenens, said: “By extending our refuelling infrastructure we not only reinforce our commitment to dual fuel, but increase its availability to other third party operators who want to benefit from the technology.”
Howard Tenens is taking part in the government’s Low Carbon Truck Trial and last year converted 35 of its trucks into dual-fuel vehicles after receiving a DfT funding boost.
