Aldi is on the hunt for 600 new staff at its distribution centre in Bardon, Leicestershire, as part of plans to ramp up operations at the site over the next 12 months.

The 600 roles cover warehouse operations, logistics and transport, with jobs including warehouse pickers, warehouse operations assistants and transport assistants.

Warehouse operations assistants currently earn between £13.31 and £16.64 an hour, depending on shift pattern, while competitive salaries are available for transport and other operational positions.

The £500m mega-distribution centre, which launched in May this year, has a 1.3m sq ft footprint and 140 HGV loading bays.

It is Aldi’s first automated distribution centre in the UK and is built to process up to seven million pallets of stock annually and service nearly 350 stores at peak capacity.

The expansion of the Bardon distribution centre operations is part of Aldi’s wider plans to invest a record £900m into opening 40 new stores and boosting its distribution network, as it continues its drive to expand its retail footprint to 1,500 stores in the UK.

Jonathan Heaton, managing director of Bardon at Aldi said: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming more people to the Bardon team as recruitment continues over the coming months.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking to build a career in logistics, whether they’re just starting out or bringing previous experience, and to build the technical skills that are increasingly valuable in modern supply chain operations.

“We’re also proud to be working with local colleges and employment partners to help create opportunities for people across Leicestershire.

“Every new colleague joining Bardon will play an important role in supporting Aldi’s continued growth and helping us build our future distribution network.”

Minister for Employment Andrew Western MP said: “This is great news for people across Leicestershire. “We are determined to get people back to work in every postcode by transforming Jobcentre Plus and accelerating our £2.5 billion youth employment support package, creating up to one million opportunities for young people to earn or learn.”
