Gregory Distribution has acquired West Sussex-based Philson Haulage for an undisclosed sum.
The acquisition of the temperature-controlled transport firm is expected to create a company with a combined turnover of £125m, employing around 1,300 staff across 18 locations in England and Scotland.
Philson, which runs a fleet of over 30 vehicles and employs 56 staff at its Chichester base, was bought from its owners Phil and Sonia Dickinson. Phil Dickinson will continue to run the business.
Gregory Distribution chief executive John Gregory said: “Acquiring Philson has allowed Gregory Distribution to expand its current operations on the south coast of England.
"Philson’s transport activities complement existing Gregory temperature-controlled work and therefore both operations should benefit.”
Philson owner Phil Dickinson said: “The opportunity to become part of a larger family-owned business will provide the resources and support that are necessary for us to continue to develop the business in a dynamic and service-driven marketplace.”
