GeoPost UK, comprising of DPD and Interlink, showed robust financial health in 2013 with significant increases in turnover and pre-tax profit.
Turnover at DPD rose by 24% to £492m for the year-ending 29 December 2013, from £397m in the previous year, while turnover at Interlink rose 12% to £179m. Combining the two businesses the turnover at GeoPost UK’s activities stood at £671.6m, compared to £470.9m in 2012.
Pre-tax profit for the combined businesses stood at £90m.
According to documents filed at Companies House growth in outbound international services helped boost turnover, with the largest share of revenue coming from next day parcels.
Dwain McDonald, CEO at DPD, told MT: “I’m absolutely delighted with our performance. We’ve experienced strong growth for a number of years now, thanks to our unique proposition. Revenue is up 20% again and we added over £70m worth of new business in 2013, largely down to our Predict service which means that customers know exactly when to expect their delivery and don’t have to wait in all day.
“Our Follow My Parcel innovation was a further step-change last year and the reaction from customers has been phenomenal. From Twitter to Mumsnet there are people talking about how much they love watching their DPD driver on his round, making his way to their house. It’s made parcel delivery more transparent for receivers, and it helps retailers see how DPD can add value to their own offer.
“It is a competitive market and we never stand still. We are constantly investing back into our network to increase our capacity and improve efficiency. Earlier this year we announced our biggest ever depot expansion programme with 15 new sites in 2014, while 2015 will see the opening of our fourth hub, which will be the largest of its kind in Europe.”
In April DPD announced plans to increase its nationwide capacity by opening 15 new or upgraded depots by the end of next year, including its £100m hub in Hinckley, Leicestershire which will have capacity to handle 700,000 parcels a night.
DPD won the Customer Care Award at the 2014 Motor Transport Awards earlier this year.
- The growth in turnover at the company will see it make a significant climb up the rankings in the MT Top 100 – published 10 November.
