DHL Supply Chain has opened a new 11-acre multi-user RDC in Avonmouth to boost its south-west operation.
The new site, near Bristol, will enable customers to use shared facilities and vehicles, which DHL said "offers users economies of scale", while reducing wasted space and overheads.
It has been designed to be as flexible as possible, with 120,000ft² of ambient chambers and 35,000ft² of temperature-controlled sheds.
Flexible dock doors and ground level access points allow for a wide range of vehicles to be controlled from the site, while electric vehicles and charging points will future-proof operations.
Ian Clough, MD, network logistics and transport, UK and Ireland at DHL Supply Chain, said: “We know that our customers are looking for new solutions to drive efficiencies and reduce their supply chain costs.
"With this new state of the art facility at Avonmouth, we’re rising to that challenge."
The new facility is an example of the changing trends affecting the logistics sector, discussed in a new DHL report: The logistics transport evolution: the road ahead.
