New Pall-Ex Group MD Kevin Buchanan has said he wishes to transform the business into the “undisputed market leader” within three years by refocusing its efforts on developing the business in the UK and Europe.
The former Palletline MD will join the business on Monday as part of a management reshuffle which sees former group MD Adrian Russell become group deputy chairman, and sales director Chris Tancock appointed deputy group MD. Cris Stephenson, who became UK MD in June this year, has left the business.
Speaking to MotorTransport.co.uk, Buchanan said he hopes to bring “a certain drive and enthusiasm to the business” and that the reorganisation of the management team has given Pall-Ex a much clearer development strategy.
“We have one simple goal- within three years we will be undisputed market leader,” said Buchanan.
He hopes to do this by analysing all areas of the business and how it operates, looking at its technology and processes to see what it can do better. He will be working alongside CEO Hilary Devey to ensure the network offers its members the best deal possible in terms of both rates and service.
“I think there is a very clear determination that the relationship [between the network and its members] is a fair and equitable one,” he added.
Buchanan said that Pall-Ex ultimately intends to be moving as many pallets on the Continent as it does in the UK. Further expansion of its European network - currently standing at five plus the UK - is planned, and talks about establishing franchises in Benelux and Bulgaria are underway.
Pall-Ex recently welcomed new members Boococks Commercials and Nova Transport to the network. Boococks replaces McGregor Logistics, which has joined Palletways, and will take over part of the DN postcode in Doncaster. Bristol-based Nova Transport is an additional member and will cover the BS10, 11, 32, 34-37 and GL12-13 postcodes.
