Yearsley 60th anniversary wagon LR

Building work at Yearsley Logistics’ new Peterborough cold store looks set to start within six months with the new ‘superhub’ up and running in around 18 months, a spokeswoman for the Lancashire-based firm has said.

Work on the site, which will complement two other Yearsley superhubs – one at its Heywood HQ and the other at Hams Hall - was originally planned to start during 2014 after planning permission was secured the previous year.

But as the firm confirmed late last month, no work has so far commenced.

Updating Motortransport.co.uk, a spokeswoman told us the site “should be up and running in about 18 months” after a build that would take around a year.

“We don’t build until we’ve got some definite contracts signed – we don’t want to build and have an empty cold store,” she said. “But we’re quite positive on some of the people we’ve been talking with and should hopefully be up and running in about 18 months.”

Meanwhile the firm has unveiled this ‘diamond’ liveried combination based on a Mercedes-Benz Actros 2545 tractor to celebrate its 60th anniversary this year. The striking-looking vehicle will be appearing at this year’s Truckfest and will be guest of honour at the firm’s Gala dinner for employees in June.

Yearsley is also celebrating the anniversary by giving each of its employees an extra day off on their birthday this year and is planning to raise £60,000 for charity.
