Laser Transport International increased its turnover and profits before it was snapped up by Currie Solutions Group last year.

Latest financial results for the Hythe-based transport company, for the year ending 31 December 2019, showed that it increased revenues by 2.2% to £17.7m.

Pre-tax profit increased to £146,000, compared with £3,500 the year before.

In June 2020, Currie Solutions made its third acquisition in 18 months and bought Laser, which it said gave it a prime location in Kent, as well as new hubs in Coventry and Swindon.

In its review of the trading period, Laser said its core European groupage activity remained robust and trading with Germany, France, Italy and Spain was strong.

On its acquisition, it added: “Laser will continue to trade as normal under its current management team supported by the Currie team as we embark on its next journey to increase volume, develop new services and increase profitability.”

Laser added that Covid-19 affected trading in March and April 2020, but that the business had adjusted quickly and remained robust throughout the period, with trading volumes returning to normal in June with no impact on profitability.
