Felixstowe container haulier Searon Logistics, which employs more than 100 staff, has closed down.
The operator told MT it had shut its doors and staff were “in the process” of being made redundant.
The company held O-licences in the East, North East and West of England regions, with its Felixstowe depot authorised for 60 HGVs.
It also shared an operating centre with Turners (Soham) in Castleford.
Turners MD Paul Day said he was “aware of the situation” regarding Searon, but it was too early to comment on whether the company would be purchasing any of its assets: “We have to wait and see what happens with Searon,” he said.
Searon’s last publicly available set of accounts, for the year ending 31 March 2016 reported “a difficult year… with changes to the way shipping lines operate causing inconsistent demand on top of generally depressed trading conditions in the haulage industry.”
It had made a £284,473 pre-tax profit on a turnover of £13.2m during the period, a fall from 2015’s £495,260.
