Royal Mail has been granted permission to extend its Parcelforce depot in Newport, south Wales, as part of a multi-million pound investment in its parcels business. The expansion forms part of a £75m investment in expanding its network of hubs and depots in its express parcels division, and will see Parcelforce increase the size of its current depot on the Maesglas Industrial Estate.
Planning documents revealed that Royal Mail hopes to expand the depot into the adjacent unit, as well as increase the size of the yard by approximately 7,100ft².
It also plans to develop a fuelling station and jetwash facility, one new level access door and new security fencing.
A Royal Mail spokesman was unable to comment on how many other depots have been expanded since the investment was revealed last October.
