Prohire has invested nearly £1m in its ‘spot rental’ fleet as demand for hire vehicles continues to increase.
The Midlands-based CV hire and fleet management firm said the popularity of spot hire vehicles reflects the fact that some companies are treating the economic upturn with a degree of caution.
Dan Stevenson, Prohire rentals manager, added: “Companies are beginning to feel that they are coming out of recession, but, in a lot of cases – particularly among third-party logistics services companies – there is a reluctance to overstretch by buying, for example, a new £70,000 tractor unit to service a new contract. So rental options are particularly attractive.”
Prohire has placed orders for 35 new vehicles, comprising: 7.5-tonne Iveco Eurocargos; 18-tonne and 26-tonne Daf curtainsiders; Mercedes-Benz Axor tractor units and 3.5-tonne Sprinter vans with refrigerated bodies.
This latest investment follows more than £2.5m already spent on its hire fleet in February.
The firm operates approaching 300 vehicles ranging from car-derived vans to 44-tonne tractor units in its spot rental fleet and vehicles can be rented for any amount of time- from one day to seven years.
