Malcolm Group has significantly increased its order of 50ft skeletal trailers from SDC by an additional 80 units.
When the trailers were revealed at the Multimodal show earlier this year, Malcolm Group had placed an order for 40 units. The extended container, which is easily swapable between the trailer and Malcolm's rail services, can carry 15% more freight (equivalent to four pallet loads) than a standard sized trailer.
SDC have now revealed, however, that Malcolm Group has increased their order to 120 trailers.
The two year, £3m, contract with Malcolm Group is the latest deal in a stream of business for SDC, which recently announced a £40m increase in its projected turnover, from £130m in the financial year ending March 2014 to a predicted £170m for the year ending March 2015.
SDC MD Mark Cuskeran said: “The new extended length skeletal trailer, which was designed and developed by Malcolm Group and SDC is the very first of its kind in the UK. The extra capacity offers reduced fuel usage and carbon emissions while increasing productivity, and has undergone stringent testing and safety approval for both road and rail use.”
