Shropshire-based Maiden’s of Telford has added 16 MANs to its fleet, and plans to double its warehouse’s capacity this year as business confidence continues to soar in the local area.

Maiden’s, which covers the SY postcode for Palletforce, moved to its current headquarters at Dee Park Court, Donnington Wood in 2010.

However with business booming in the region, MD John Maiden intends to expand operations further. “Businesses here are very optimistic about 2014,” said Maiden. “The local market is buoyant.”

The company has 40,000ft² of warehousing space that it intends to double having identified a suitable neat its home . “Like everyone we took stock during the past few years,” said Maiden. “However we’ve been very fortunate to pick up additional work more recently.”

Maiden said the last nine months of 2013 had been good ones for the business, with plenty of activity in the local area with a Jaguar Land Rover engine plant near Telford just one of the recent arrivals.

Maiden’s, which has a staff of 90 operates within the agricultural, retail and food & drink sectors, picked up new customers last year including within the automotive sector. It is aiming for £10m of turnover in 2014.

The company, which operates its own groupage system and handles some 600 pallets a day, completed delivery of a batch of 16 MANs Euro-5 TGXs late last year to meet increased demand and contract obligations.

Supplied by the Aquila Group on R&M packages, the trucks were a mixture of replacements and additions to a fleet that now stands at 65 vehicles and 130 trailers strong.

Maiden said he would likely add more trucks this year. He also expects to trial a Euro-6 MAN from in April having already put a Euro-6 Scania through its paces.
