Norbert Horse heads

A client made Norbert Dentressangle an offer it couldn't refuse when it asked the distributor to carry two giant horses heads from Scotland to Sheffield.

Its long-term customer Outokumpu Stainless commissioned the heads to mark the 100th anniversary of the discovery of stainless steel in Sheffield by Harry Brearley, a steelworker and metallurgist.

The Finland-based stainless steel and high-performance alloys firm supplied the sheet materials used to form the exterior skin of the Kelpies, designed by Scottish sculptor Andy Scott.

Dentressangle’s dedicated network, Red Inside, transported the horse heads, weighing 1,400 kg between them, from a workshop in Falkirk to a major international conference and exhibition at the University of Sheffield.

Mike Bridges, ND Transport Services MD, said:  “We’ve worked with Outokumpu for nearly 25 years and we’re delighted to be involved in helping the company celebrate the centenary of the stainless steel industry – a development that revolutionised the industrial world.”
